So recently I got a subscription to Audible.com through a free book link. Audible is a monthly subscription service for audiobooks. There are several links wandering around where you can get your first month for free. After that first free month, it is $14.95 per month. With that $14.95, you get a credit on your account that you can use to buy any book on the site. The books seem to normally be around $20-$30 so that is a great price. They also have daily deals where they discount one book a day to under $5.
With my free credit, I got The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I had never listened to an audiobook before, so I didn't really know how I'd like it. It turns out, I loved it. I liked that I could listen while I was getting ready in the morning or while I was driving to work. I would even listen to a chapter before I went to bed (though, sometimes I did end up falling asleep before the chapter ended). I really enjoyed using a different way to absorb a book. I was able to close my eyes (well, not while I was driving) and picture it. It wasn't quite the same as reading a book in physical form, but I still like the experience of listening to it.
I finished listening to The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells yesterday. I really enjoyed this book, especially being in an audio format. Sometimes, I find it hard to read classics. So this way, it was a different experience and easier for me to follow. The book was written more like a newspaper or a magazine article, it seemed, and it was interesting to hear it read out loud to me. I don't know if I would have gotten the same experience out of it if I had read it in physical form. It would have been harder for me to read because of the difference in the writing styles.
Overall, I am enjoying listening to audiobooks. I like being able to absorb a book while not having to be sitting with a book in my hand. I have a few more that I bought during the sale last week, so I know I'll be listening to those soon!
xoxo, Jennie
